Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third-person open world survival game where you explore, expand and evolve to advance your clan to the next generation. You relive the early story of mankind, but humanity is only one idea away from evolution or extinction.
What it feels like
The slow-paced, methodical exploration and evolutionary storytelling invites reflection on human origins and progress. Despite survival pressures, the game offers moments of calm exploration and wonder at the natural beauty of primeval Africa. Discovering new abilities, tools, and regions invokes a sense of wonder and marvel at humanity's incremental progress.
What it's about
Set 10 million years ago in primeval Africa, portraying early human evolution and the emergence of mankind. Surviving a hostile natural world—predators, environment, and resource scarcity—is the central struggle driving progression. The natural world and ecological systems are central—predators, plants, seasons, and the African landscape drive the entire experience.
How it plays
Managing hunger, thirst, and health to keep your clan alive is a core loop throughout the game. Each clan member develops learned abilities and mutations that persist, creating distinct individual capabilities. Gathering food, materials, and managing limited resources under environmental pressure is constantly necessary.
How it looks and sounds
The game employs a first-person perspective from your clan member's eyes, immersing the player in the protagonist's sensory experience.
How it's structured
A large continuous African landscape explorable in largely non-linear order as you evolve your clan across millions of years. Designed as a solo experience where you guide your own clan's evolution without multiplayer components. While guided by generational progression, players choose which regions to explore and abilities to pursue in largely open fashion.
