
Barotrauma
Barotrauma is a 2D online multiplayer game taking place in a submarine travelling through the icy depths of Jupiter’s moon Europa. The bone-crushing pressure outside the submarine, the strange creatures inhabiting the ocean and the potentially dangerous equipment and machines on board ensure that the tiniest slip can turn the game into a chaotic struggle for survival. The game is heavily inspired by Space Station 13 and a game concept called Pressure.

Anticipatory fear of the unknown creatures outside and system failures that haven't happened yet but loom constantly. Managing submarine systems, power, oxygen, and materials under constant pressure is core to survival. Coordinating distinct crew roles (captain, engineer, medic, gunner) and their responsibilities is essential. Densely interacting submarine machinery, damage, flooding, and crew need states produce unscripted emergencies.

2D sprite-based visuals with a deliberate low-fidelity, functional aesthetic befitting a utilitarian submarine.

Online co-op submarine teamwork is the primary design: players must coordinate roles and tasks to survive together. Procedural mission variation, crew composition choices, and emergent failures ensure each run feels distinct.
