Broforce
When evil threatens the world, the world calls on Broforce - an under-funded, over-powered paramilitary organization dealing exclusively in excessive force. Brace your loins with up to four players to run ‘n’ gun as dozens of different bros and eliminate the opposing terrorist forces that threaten our way of life. Unleash scores of unique weapons and set off incredible chain reactions of fire, napalm, and limbs in the name of freedom.
What it feels like
Kinetic rush of constant gunplay, explosions, and chaos creates a thrilling moment-to-moment momentum. Irreverent parody of action-movie tropes and excessive violence creates a mischievous, teasing fun. Despite gore and violence, the tone never asks to be taken seriously; it's carefree and unburdened.
What it's about
Sharp parody of 1980s action-movie excess, patriotic militarism, and over-the-top machismo drives the comedy. Armed paramilitary organization framing and military aesthetic provide setting context.
How it plays
Aiming and firing weapons with tactile feedback is central to moment-to-moment combat throughout the campaign. Navigating hazardous terrain and jumping is a core challenge alongside combat. Dozens of distinct named characters (parody heroes) each with unique weapons and playstyles encourage replaying with different bros.
How it looks and sounds
Side-scrolling perspective is definitional to the run 'n' gun design; the game is structured entirely as horizontal left-to-right action. Deliberately low-resolution pixel art is the visual foundation of Broforce's retro arcade aesthetic.
How it's structured
Discrete stages are played through in a fixed sequence, one after another. Levels are deliberately authored by designers, with environmental destruction and setpieces carefully placed. Up to four players share the screen in split-screen cooperative gameplay.
