Dead Rising 3
Available exclusively for Xbox One and Windows, Dead Rising 3 marks the return of one of the most popular zombie video game franchises. Set 10 years after the events of Fortune City in Dead Rising 2, players are introduced to Nick Ramos, a young mechanic with a strange tattoo and a mysterious past, who must find a way to escape a city full of zombies before an impending military strike wipes the city of Los Perdidos, California, and everyone in it, off the map. Nick can’t do it alone – he must join up with other survivors to stay alive. They must fight their way out before it’s too late.
What it feels like
The game balances horror with comedic tone, absurd weapon crafting, and humorous survivor encounters. Despite comedy, the game maintains an unflinching look at zombie brutality and the cost of survival.
What it's about
Zombie outbreak and survival in a zombie-infested city is the central setting and existential threat that drives the entire experience. Enduring a hostile zombie-infested world and escaping before military annihilation is the central struggle. Nick's mysterious past and tattoo hint at hidden truths about his connection to the outbreak.
How it plays
Combining weapons and items into custom creations is a core loop that the player uses to gain advantages against zombies. Close-quarters combat with improvised and crafted weapons against hordes of zombies is the primary interaction. Fast melee combat against many enemies with flashy, chained weapon combos is a signature Dead Rising feature.
How it looks and sounds
The camera follows Nick Ramos from behind as the standard perspective for exploration and combat. The game uses high-fidelity 3D rendering aiming to look realistic, set in a modern urban environment.
How it's structured
Los Perdidos is a large continuous space freely explorable in a non-linear fashion, with the player choosing where and how to tackle objectives. The game emphasizes emergent systemic play with many optional objectives and player-set goals alongside the main deadline of escape. An in-fiction military strike deadline structures play and forces prioritization of survival objectives.
