Epistory: Typing Chronicles
Epistory is an atmospheric adventure typing game that tells the story of a writer lacking inspiration who asks her muse to help write her latest book. In Epistory you play the muse, a fictional character in a world where everything is untold. Your adventure begins on a blank page, but the world will soon become larger and livelier as you gather inspiration, solve its mysteries and defeat its enemies. From movement to opening chests and fighting in epic battles, every element in the game is controlled exclusively with the keyboard. As you progress and explore the fantasy origami world, the story literally unfolds in the writer’s mind and the mysteries of the magic power of the words are revealed.
What it feels like
The game celebrates discovery and magic in an increasingly unfolding world, inviting childlike awe at the mysteries revealed. The atmospheric adventure invites reflection on creativity, inspiration, and the writing process as the story unfolds.
What it's about
An epic secondary world of magic, mystery, and an insectile corruption to defeat, with a muse embarking on an adventure within a writer's imagination. The muse's adventure exploring and expanding the blank-page world into a fully realized fantasy serves as a transformative narrative spine. The player inhabits a muse within a writer's mind, with the world and story reflecting the creative process of self-discovery and inspiration.
How it plays
Core gameplay mechanic where typing words on the keyboard exclusively controls all interactions, from movement to combat to puzzle-solving. Puzzles are woven into the origami world itself, solved through typing interactions with the environment. Combat is present and described as epic battles fought against insectile corruption, though delivered through the typing mechanic rather than traditional action inputs.
How it looks and sounds
The game is played from a top-down isometric perspective as the player character rides a fox through the origami world. The game uses a fixed three-quarter isometric angle to frame the exploration of the origami world. The world is visually constructed to look like folded origami paper and diorama-style crafted environments.
How it's structured
Designed exclusively as a single-player experience with no multiplayer component. The fantasy origami world is deliberately authored with carefully designed environments and story beats that unfold as you progress. Players explore a continuous origami world without loading screens or hard area boundaries, with the environment expanding organically.
