Jazzpunk
Jazzpunk is a single-player, first-person adventure game, focusing on exploration and comedy over puzzle-solving. Each mission has one central objective, but the player is free to explore the game world at their own pace, which is populated with a large number of interactive NPCs, each with their own action or gag. Mini-games, including mini-golf, a Frogger clone, and a version of Duck Hunt in which the player pelts cardboard ducks with slices of bread from a toaster, also feature prominently in the game's storyline.
What it feels like
The game is built on deadpan, surreal comedy with nonsensical humor like sentient martinis and breadslice duck hunts. The entire experience invites mischievous, teasing fun through interactive gags and absurd scenarios. Quirky, imaginative charm pervades the design through weird gadgets, exotic locales, and playful interactive gags.
What it's about
Set in an alternate-reality Cold War world with corporate espionage, cybercrime, and high-tech gadgetry as core thematic elements. Spoof comedy inspired by parody films and cartoons, poking fun at Cold War tropes and spy fiction.
How it plays
Interaction centers on clicking on NPCs and objects in the world to trigger gags and mini-games. NPCs have action or gag responses that drive player interaction and comedic payoff.
How it looks and sounds
The entire game is presented from a first-person perspective as the player explores the world. Dreamlike, impossible imagery such as sentient martinis and logic-defying mini-games characterize the visual world. The visual presentation mixes realistic proportions with exaggerated, painterly stylization fitting the spy-parody tone.
How it's structured
Explicitly single-player focused adventure with no multiplayer component. Every location and gag is deliberately authored by designers to deliver specific comedic moments. Designed as a concise comedy adventure finishable in a few hours rather than a sprawling long-haul experience.
