LEGO DC Super-Villains
Lego DC Super-Villains is a Lego-themed action-adventure platform video game developed by Traveller's Tales. The fourth installment in the Lego Batman series of games, it is a spin-off that focuses entirely on villains of the DC Universe; it is the first in the series to do so since the villain levels from Lego Batman: The Videogame. While the core gameplay follows the same style as past Lego titles, including the addition of a two-player cooperative multiplayer mode, DC Super-Villains is the first title to incorporate a customized character into the story.
What it feels like
The game embraces comedy and mischief throughout, never taking the villain premise seriously, maintaining a fun, unburdened tone. Emphasis on 'mischievous antics' and wreaking havoc invites experimentation and teasing fun rather than gravity.
What it's about
Playing as supervillains from the DC underworld positions organized villainy and criminal enterprise as the narrative setting. The premise of 'it's good to be bad' and becoming the best villain offers light parody of superhero genre tropes through the villain lens.
How it plays
The core action gameplay is fast-paced melee combat against multiple enemies with flashy chained attacks, foundational to the LEGO franchise style. The first LEGO game to feature deep character customization as a core mechanic, allowing players to create and personalize their super-villain. Jumping, ledge-climbing, and navigating hazardous geometry are core challenges throughout the action-adventure design.
How it looks and sounds
The LEGO DC aesthetic directly evokes comic-book style with bold outlines, vibrant colors, and cartoonish proportions. The LEGO blocky character design and chibi-like proportions give the game an adorable, accessible visual charm despite the villain theme.
How it's structured
Two-player local cooperative multiplayer is a prominent feature, fundamental to the couch co-op experience. The game features open-world exploration across DC locations that players can traverse and interact with largely non-linearly. The game is designed to be fully playable solo, with the campaign accommodating single-player progression.
