Rift
Rift (previously known as Rift: Planes of Telara) is a fantasy free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Trion Worlds. Rift takes place within the fantasy world of Telara. The game was released in March 2011. Two competing factions composed of a selection of races and classes battle each other; as well as the enemies who emerge from dynamic rifts.
What it's about
Telara is a secondary fantasy world with multiple factions, races, magic, and mythical threats. Players engage in quests and content to defeat threats and overcome challenges in the world.
How it plays
A uniquely customizable class system is explicitly highlighted as a core feature allowing player specialization. Deep customization of class, abilities, and gear combinations supports theorycrafting and build variation. Character progression via leveling and gear acquisition is a standard MMORPG loop.
How it looks and sounds
The game is explicitly noted as third-person perspective, a standard for MMORPGs. The game renders a visually detailed, realistic fantasy world with high-fidelity 3D graphics typical of 2011 MMORPGs.
How it's structured
A massively multiplayer online RPG is the definitional core of Rift's design and player experience. Telara is a shared persistent online world where players inhabit the same space continuously. The game features large explorable fantasy zones with dynamic content and open-world encounters.
