Shift Happens
Shift Happens is a co-op platformer for two people. You control Bismo and Plom, who are connected by accident. They share a common mass and can shift it at any time. At the push of a button you change size and strength, affecting yourself and your partner. The mechanic links you and forces you to cooperate and communicate.
What it feels like
The design encourages mischievous experimentation with backstabbing and taunting between partners, inviting creative play. Colorful, family-friendly design with humor and whimsy—never demanding grim seriousness. Stylized worlds and quirky mechanical conceit (shared mass) evoke fanciful charm and imagination.
How it plays
Platforming through stylized worlds is the core challenge, with jumping and navigating geometry as fundamental to progression. The mass-shifting mechanic creates spatial puzzles where players must manipulate size and weight to solve environmental geometry puzzles. Shared mass and throwing mechanics rely on simulated physics to produce core interaction and puzzle-solving.
How it looks and sounds
The game uses 2.5D rendering with side-scrolling platformer gameplay on a 2D plane. Stylized imaginary worlds with colorful visual design drive the aesthetic appeal.
How it's structured
Local split-screen co-op is explicitly central to the design, with the two characters sharing mechanics that force constant cooperation on a couch. Online co-op is a primary supported mode, allowing remote play and partnership with the same mass-shifting mechanics. Four stages of authored content form a bounded campaign progression from start to finish.
