Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: Black Ops is the seventh main Call of Duty game and the sequel to Call of Duty: World at War. The game differs from most previous installments, which would involve a usual three-country campaign, while Call of Duty: Black Ops features two playable countries (Russia and the USA) but only has an American campaign. Several new features are also introduced, such as dive-to-prone and the available use of a flashlight on certain weapons. Furthermore, the campaign's playable characters now speak while being controlled by the player. Extra game included within: + Zork (Apple II)
What it feels like
Sustained edge-of-seat pressure throughout campaign missions where mistakes feel costly and imminent. The campaign presents a dark, unflinching portrayal of Cold War black operations and their moral ambiguity.
What it's about
Armed forces operations and warfare set in the Cold War era are the explicit historical backdrop. Grounded in the real Cold War period with references to actual military operations and geopolitical conflict. Campaign missions involve intelligence operations, covert infiltration, and classified black ops missions.
How it plays
Aiming and firing firearms with tactile feedback is the definitive core of the first-person shooter experience throughout campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes. Pre-match tailoring of weapons, perks, and equipment is central to multiplayer strategy. Close-quarters knife melee is a functional alternative combat option alongside firearms in multiplayer and campaign.
How it looks and sounds
The entire game is viewed directly through the player character's eyes in first-person perspective across all modes. High-fidelity rendering of weapons, environments, and characters aiming for realistic visual presentation.
How it's structured
Multiplayer modes pit players directly against each other as a major pillar of the game. A bounded, story-driven campaign with a definite narrative arc across multiple missions and locations. A substantial campaign with authored progression and story is a major component of the experience.
