Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

2016Eidos MontréalPlayStation 4, Linux, PC (Microsoft Windows), Mac, Xbox One

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided directly follows the aftermath of the Aug Incident, a day when mechanically augmented citizens all over the world were stripped of control over their minds and bodies, resulting in the deaths of millions of innocents. The year is now 2029, and the golden era of augmentations is over. Mechanically augmented humans have been deemed outcasts and segregated from the rest of society. Crime and acts of terror serve as a thin veil to cover up an overarching conspiracy aimed at controlling the future of mankind…

What it feels like

Navigating a hostile world where augmented identity is despised creates sustained edge-of-seat pressure and paranoia. Secrets, hidden conspiracies, and answers withheld drive the pull through the narrative.

What it's about

A near-future megacity setting with augmented humans, corporate control, and neon-soaked urban decay defines the cyberpunk aesthetic and thematic core. Mechanical augmentation and the societal consequences of posthuman enhancement drive both the plot and the player's mechanical identity. A vast worldwide conspiracy to control mankind's future is explicitly the overarching plot that structures the entire narrative.

How it plays

Multiple approach vectors (stealth, combat, hacking, dialogue) and interlocking systemic rules permit player-authored solutions to encounters. Avoiding detection and reading patrol patterns is a core viable playstyle alongside direct combat. Choosing from an arsenal of augmentations and weapons to build playstyle is a central progression and player expression system.

How it looks and sounds

The world is experienced directly through Adam Jensen's eyes in first-person perspective. Neon-lit urban environments and electric color characterize the cyberpunk aesthetic. Grimy, worn urban architecture and high-detail realism of dystopian cities define the visual mood.
