What it feels like
The straightforward heroic objective of saving the land from ancient evil is played earnestly without irony.
What it's about
Saving Etheria from an 'Ancient Evil' in a fantasy setting with dungeon crawling suggests dark fantasy atmosphere.
How it plays
Tower defense is the foundational loop — summoning defensive structures to stop waves of enemies is the core mechanic that defines Dungeon Defenders. While tower defense anchors the game, direct character-driven combat is equally central; players actively fight alongside their defenses in action-packed encounters. Equipment drops and gear collection are a persistent reward loop that drives character progression across difficulties and missions.
How it looks and sounds
Third-person perspective is standard for action-RPG tower defense gameplay allowing player character visibility during combat.
How it's structured
The game explicitly organizes combat around 'wave after wave of enemies,' making wave-based structure definitional. 4-player online co-op is a major featured mode that enables shared progression and strategy. Multiple difficulty modes, challenge/survival missions, and loot randomization incentivize repeated playthroughs to farm better gear.
