The Swapper
The Swapper is a short puzzle platformer where you must complete every puzzle and collect 124 orbs, in groups of 3 and 9 later on, to complete the game. The game has a tool which lets you create up to 4 clones and switch between them as long as you have a clear line of sight. The main obstacles for the puzzles are 3 kinds of lights that interfere with the tool in different ways to make the puzzles harder. Achievements/Trophies are tied to hidden consoles instead of story progress so a guide will most likely be needed to find all 10.
What it feels like
Philosophical themes and narrative depth encourage reflection on identity and consciousness. The premise and atmosphere build enigmatic tension around the nature of the protagonist and the tool. The narrative and atmospheric setting evoke a quiet, wistful sadness in isolation.
What it's about
Set in the furthest reaches of space with a sci-fi narrative framework. A central hidden truth drives the experience, as hinted by 'What if someone knew your mind better than you did?' The cloning mechanic and narrative probe questions of self and consciousness.
How it plays
Puzzles are woven directly into the game world using the clone-swap tool and light interference mechanics. The core mechanic involves geometry, perspective, and spatial reasoning to position clones with line-of-sight. Jumping and navigating spatial geometry is a core challenge alongside puzzle-solving.
How it looks and sounds
Explicitly a side-scrolling game where the action unfolds in 2D profile view. Described with HD-2D influences and hand-drawn elements, rendered in a distinctive 2D side-view style.
How it's structured
Explicitly designed for solo play with no multiplayer component mentioned. A bounded narrative-driven experience with a definite ending at 124 collected orbs. Although not classic Metroidvania structure, collecting orbs in groups to unlock progression echoes gated progression.
