Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure, in which you play a two year old child. After waking up in the middle of the night to mysterious sounds, you start exploring the dark looking for comfort. The game explores horror through atmosphere and exploration, not with scores and combat systems. In Among the Sleep you’re vulnerable, scared, and trying to make sense of the world

What it feels like

A pervasive slow-building anticipatory fear drives exploration through darkness and mysterious sounds in a nightmare world. A small, vulnerable child navigates a dark, isolating environment alone, searching for maternal comfort in an unfamiliar nightmare. Jittery unease and worry pervade the child's exploration as mysterious sounds and darkness suggest imminent danger.

What it's about

Horror is rooted in the unreliable perception and fear of a two-year-old mind experiencing a nightmare, not external threats. The game explicitly takes place in a nightmare, using dream logic and subconscious imagery as the setting. Solitude and separation from one's mother drives both the emotional core and the exploration mechanic.

How it plays

Avoiding detection and threat through stealth is a core survival tool for a vulnerable child character. Awareness of unseen threats and the need to avoid detection drive tension during exploration. Exploration-based puzzle-solving woven into the nightmare world drives progression without combat.

How it's structured

Designed entirely as a solo single-player experience with no multiplayer component. Described in tags and reviews as 'short,' completing in a single session or few hours. Progression appears to follow a mostly fixed order through distinct areas of the nightmare rather than open exploration.
