Democracy 3
Democracy is a government simulation game. The player plays as if they are the president or prime minister of a democratic government. The player must introduce and alter policies in seven areas - tax, economy, welfare, foreign policy, transport, law and order and public services. Each policy has an effect on the happiness of various voter groups, as well as affecting factors such as crime and air quality. The player has to deal with "situations", which are typically problems such as petrol protests or homelessness, and also has to make decisions on dilemmas that arise each turn.
What it feels like
Despite the humorous premise, the simulation treats political decision-making as a serious system.
What it's about
Managing a democracy's competing interests and power dynamics is the core subject. Economic policy and tax systems prominently feature among the governance challenges. The implicit tension between good governance and political self-interest underlies gameplay.
How it plays
Interlocking policy systems affecting voter groups, crime, air quality, and other factors create emergent simulation outcomes. Budget allocation across seven policy areas requires careful prioritization under financial constraints. Voter group happiness and satisfaction function as reputation tracks that determine electoral success.
How it looks and sounds
Focus on systemic complexity over visual spectacle suggests clean, information-dense interface design.
How it's structured
The game is explicitly designed for solo play with no multiplayer components mentioned. Each playthrough is a bounded term as a government leader with definite electoral and policy outcomes. The player sets their own policy agenda and goals within the simulation framework with few imposed objectives.
