Enter the Gungeon is a top-down bullet hell roguelike where players take control of one of several characters known as Gungeoneers and fight their way through the procedurally generated floors of the Gungeon. Combat revolves around shooting bullet-shaped enemies with an extensive arsenal of both conventional and exotic firearms, while using dodge rolls, table flips, and environmental cover to avoid dense patterns of projectiles. The game features permadeath, meaning all items and weapons are lost upon dying, and players must start again from the first floor. Between runs, a hub area called the Breach allows players to unlock new items and interact with non-player characters.

How it plays

Dense, patterned projectile barrages are the defining core challenge; dodging and weaving through bullet patterns is what defines moment-to-moment play. Aiming and firing an extensive arsenal of conventional and exotic firearms with tactile feedback is central to moment-to-moment play. All items and weapons are lost upon death; permanent loss raises the weight of each decision and run.

How it looks and sounds

The world is viewed from directly overhead; this top-down perspective is fundamental to the bullet-hell and twin-stick design. Deliberately low-resolution pixel-art visuals define the game's aesthetic identity and are highlighted in user tags.

How it's structured

Permadeath resets progress each run; play is divided into discrete procedurally-generated attempts from floor one. Floors are procedurally generated so each run through the Gungeon differs in layout and enemy placement. Progress is a descent through successive dungeon floors of the Gungeon toward the final treasure.
