FPS Chess
Play an ordinary game of chess against a friend or a stranger. However, all your intricate strategies will crumble before the enemy rook's sniper trick-shot. All your practiced openings and counters will amount to nothing before the enemy queen's randomly sprayed machine gun. You finally checkmate the king. Unfortunately, it seems you are not ready for this fight. 5 seconds in and you've been sliced in half by the king's sword. It turns out you are not playing Chess at all, but an FPS. Just make sure to practice your aim!
What it feels like
The juxtaposition of chess strategy with chaotic FPS gunplay is deliberately absurd and humorous, inviting experimentation. The core conceit—chess pieces armed with firearms and engaged in lethal duels—is nonsensical and comedic. The overall tone is one of carefree, irreverent fun that never demands serious engagement.
What it's about
The opening premise subverts player expectations by revealing the game is an FPS disguised as chess.
How it plays
Aiming and firing ranged weapons is the core moment-to-moment interaction, with pieces armed with sniper rifles, machine guns, and melee weapons. Chess rules structure the turns—players alternate moving pieces and engaging in FPS duels, creating a hybrid turn-based framework. Different chess pieces implicitly have distinct roles and abilities (rook sniper, queen gunner, king swordsman), functioning as lightweight classes.
How it looks and sounds
All combat is experienced from the player character's eyes in first-person perspective.
How it's structured
Direct 1v1 player-versus-player combat is the primary mode, with duel-after-duel matches to capture opponent pieces. Each piece duel takes place in a bounded arena space rather than a traversable world. Class-based asymmetry and piece variety, plus PvP variance, ensure matches play differently each time.
