Layers of Fear
Layers of Fear is a psychedelic horror that will keep you on-edge for the reminder of the game. Delve deep into the mind of an insane painter and discover the secret of his madness, as you walk through a constantly shifting house. Heavily inspired by the masterpiece paintings from the past centuries, and the architecture and décor from the XIX century. Layers of Fear is a truly unique experience, where each move of the camera can change your surroundings. Layer by layer uncover the visions, fears and horrors that entwine the protagonist and finish the masterpiece he has strived so long to create.
What it feels like
A slow-building anticipatory horror that keeps the player 'on edge,' built from atmosphere and psychological unease rather than immediate threats. The shifting mansion and madness create a suffocating, inescapable atmosphere pressing down on the player. Familiar Victorian spaces become subtly and disturbingly wrong as they shift and transform around the player.
What it's about
The primary aim is psychological horror and frightening the player through atmosphere, storytelling, and unease. Exploring the mind of an insane painter with visions, fears, and madness at the narrative center. Insanity, the cost of obsession, and psychological deterioration drive both the atmosphere and the story.
How it plays
Puzzle-solving through interaction with the environment and examination is a secondary but present mechanic.
How it looks and sounds
The game is explicitly first-person, with camera movement as a core mechanic that transforms the environment. A Victorian mansion with nineteenth-century architecture and decay is the primary visual and thematic setting. The game is explicitly described as 'psychedelic horror' with constant visual shifting and surreal transformations.
How it's structured
Explicitly single-player with no multiplayer component; a solitary psychological exploration. Every space is deliberately authored to shift and transform, with art and architecture as core design elements. The Victorian mansion is a continuous space explored without loading screens or discrete transitions.
