Downwell is a curious game about a young man with guns for boots venturing down a well in search of untold treasures. Make your way further and further down into a darkness filled with nasty creatures and mysterious secrets and collect the spectacular red gems scattered about the rocks. Step into an oddly placed shop to buy some helpful items or level up between caverns to battle well dwelling monsters and uncover hidden caves filled with riches and relics. No two trips down the well are ever the same!

What it feels like

Fast-paced arcade action with quick reflexes and kinetic flow creates a rush of momentum and skill execution. The quirky premise of guns-for-boots and odd shops invites experimental, lighthearted engagement.

What it's about

Descending deeper into darkness against hostile creatures frames survival as a secondary thematic element.

Survival Against Nature40%

How it plays

Guns integrated into the character's boots are the primary offensive tool, with aiming and firing being central to combat and progression. Jumping and navigating hazardous vertical geometry through a well descent is fundamental to moment-to-moment play. Steam user tags and the arcade nature suggest tight, demanding jumps requiring precise execution, though not punishingly unforgiving.

How it's structured

Each descent is a discrete run resetting on loss, with meta-progression between attempts via gem collection and upgrades. Procedural generation, meta-progression, and leaderboard competition create strong incentive for repeated playthroughs. The summary explicitly states 'no two trips down the well are ever the same,' indicating procedural level generation.
