The Outlast Trials
The Outlast Trials is a survival horror game you can play by yourself or with other players online. You'll have to survive the twisted, sadistic and bizarre experiments of the Murkoff Corporation, alone or in a group up to 4 players.
What it feels like
Anticipatory fear of terrible things within each trial creates a pervasive sense of dread. The atmosphere of being trapped in Murkoff's experiments presses suffocating heaviness on the player. Active present threats within experiments clearly intend the player harm.
What it's about
The core identity is survival horror with mind-numbing terror as the central experience. The twisted, sadistic experiments of Murkoff Corporation and psychological torture are defining elements. Murkoff's experiments involve augmenting and violating the human body in unsettling ways.
How it plays
Stealth is a core survival mechanic to avoid and evade the threats within the trials. Surviving twisted experiments involves managing threats and enduring until escape or completion. Enemy awareness and line-of-sight mechanics drive tension as players avoid detection.
How it looks and sounds
First-person perspective is the primary viewpoint through which all horror is experienced. Grimy, worn, high-detail realism of a nightmarish experimental facility.
How it's structured
Up to 4-player online co-op is a defining structural element alongside single-player. Solo play is fully supported as an alternative to co-op, both are core experiences. Trials are structured as discrete experiments/missions to survive and complete.
