Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
Obsidian Entertainment proudly presents the sequel to our crowdfunded and critically-acclaimed role-playing game, Pillars of Eternity. Welcome to Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. With Pillars II, we are revisiting the rich narrative, beautiful environments, and tactical combat that made Pillars of Eternity one of the highest-rated PC games of all time.
What it feels like
A sincere, unironic heartfelt-ness to the epic quest, companion relationships, and narrative choices. An unhurried invitation to reflect on weighty moral choices, character arcs, and the consequences of decisions.
What it's about
An epic secondary world of magic, divine conflict, and grand mythological stakes provides the setting and narrative frame. Pursuing a rogue god across a vast archipelago constitutes a classic heroic quest narrative arc. Unraveling the intentions and nature of the rogue god structures much of the central mystery and exploration.
How it plays
Core gameplay revolves around assembling and directing a squad of distinct party members in tactical combat. Turn-based grid-tactics combat on a spatial map where positioning, range, and character placement decide fights. Deep stat, skill, ability, and equipment combinations enable theorycrafted character builds across party members.
How it looks and sounds
A fixed isometric three-quarter angled projection is the defining visual perspective throughout exploration and combat. A sweeping orchestral soundtrack provides the sonic identity with memorable themes and atmospheric underscore. Illustrated 2D backgrounds and character artwork give the game a hand-drawn aesthetic alongside detailed isometric rendering.
How it's structured
A bounded, authored story arc following a rogue god across the Deadfire archipelago with a definite narrative throughline. Designed to be played solo with no multiplayer component or cooperative elements. A large explorable archipelago region that players navigate and explore in a largely non-linear, player-chosen order with multiple islands and zones.
