Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
Skillfully hide from and sneak past the enemies fields of view, take their formations apart and hide their bodies to cover your tracks. Quick Save will enable you to execute your plans perfectly. Tactically plan actions for your whole team and execute them all at once. Make use of the vertical gameplay and jump from roof to roof to silently kill your foes from above.
What it feels like
Sustained pressure from managing detection, executing precise timing, and the consequence of mistakes creates edge-of-seat tension. Historical setting and recruitment narrative suggest sincere, unironic engagement with the espionage fiction rather than ironic subversion.
What it's about
Set during Japan's Edo period with authentic historical setting and Shogun-era context grounding the fiction. The five specialists are recruited for assassination, sabotage, and espionage missions within a political intrigue narrative.
How it plays
Hiding from enemy fields of view and avoiding detection is the core gameplay loop, explicitly described as central to the experience. Real-time tactical planning where the player queues actions for the whole team and executes them simultaneously is definitional to the system. Quick Save and the ability to pause and plan actions tactically before executing them all at once defines the moment-to-moment play.
How it looks and sounds
Steam tags and vertical gameplay description indicate isometric or fixed three-quarter perspective presentation.
How it's structured
Play is organized as discrete tactical scenarios where the player assembles a plan and executes it against specific enemy formations. Designed as a single-player experience with no multiplayer component. Each mission appears to be deliberately authored with specific enemy placements and layouts for tactical problem-solving.
